Hi everyone! If you weren't at the second meeting, we covered the different types of events and top team tryouts:

  • Study Events: You receive a list of topics to study and take a written exam. Depending on the event, you may be allowed a cheat sheet or binder.

  • Build Events: You construct a build based on parameters provided to you, and you test your build during competition. These events are quick and tend to have less competition. Kits can be found online for these builds; if you would like to be reimbursed, you must ask our Science Olympiad club officers to purchase them for you.

  • Lab Events: You will handle chemicals or conduct an experiment during the competition. From there, you will answer a series of questions or write about your findings.

Individual events can be found on our website, in today's slideshow, and on the official Science Olympiad website. This year's Division C Rules Manual has also been released and contains comprehensive information on ALL 23 EVENTS!

Top Team: This team is composed of our highest performers, and their placements at regionals determine whether we can move on to state. Top team members are expected to prepare and perform well in competition, and help other teams as well. You do NOT have to be a senior; you can try out as long as you have experience and will commit. Top team tryouts will be next Friday (9/13) @ lunch in Room 553.

Event requests must be submitted by 9/13 @ 11:59 PM via the event request form or you will not compete. If you fill out this form, you are committing to this club. You may NOT drop out before the competition. Everyone must fill out the event request form, including top team applicants.

Make sure you have filled out our contact info form as well to be included in all future email communications.

About Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a national, team-based competition in which students compete in a variety of STEM-related events. The range of topics covered and skills required is vast – from building hovercrafts to applying forensics tools – but all are united by a common theme of scientific inquiry, and top competitors are recognized with medals.

At Scripps Ranch, the Science Olympiad club works to foster a collaborative environment for students to find success on competition day. For more information about the Science Olympiad program, please see soinc.org.
