Event Matrices

Hi, everyone!

Yesterday (9/30), we held our third official meeting of the year! For those of you who couldn't attend, here's what we covered:

MATRICES

We released our event matrices! Access them here.

We tried our best to give you all at least one of your preferred events! Keep in mind that some events were in VERY high demand, so we could not give them to everyone who was interested.

If you were assigned an event that you do not want, feel free to ask other people on your team if they would like to switch with you. Contact an officer if you end up switching, so we can update the matrix!

You may also submit an appeal to an officer to switch your events. BUT:

• Appeals are for special cases.

• You must have a strong argument.

• You cannot have been assigned one of your top 3 events.

• You must contact an officer ASAP!

If any team matrices move around due to appeals/event switches, we'll make sure to notify you!

It's not the end of the world if you were assigned a different event either! It can be a good opportunity to try something new. I personally discovered my favorite event when it was assigned to me like this :)

We also had you all nominate possible team name themes for our 5 teams. Out of the 13 nominations, one emerged victorious...

DONATE!

We need your help! Now that we have our teams established, we know how much it will cost to compete. We need to raise $1400 just to compete at regionals, and that doesn't even begin to cover the cost of competition food and t-shirts :(

To help fund our team, start asking around for donations. You can ask your parents, friends' parents, or even your doctors/dentists (they love SciOly)! Issue any checks to Scripps Ranch High School Science Olympiad, and turn them in to the school's finance office. Be sure to specify that the check is for SciOly, or the money will go to the school's general funds instead of the club's.

We will also have our donation bin available at future meetings! Feel free to drop money in there as well. Money is essential for our club to function, and we'll take any donations we can get :)

NEXT MEETINGS

We will be holding individual team meetings throughout the next couple of weeks (dates TBD, so keep an eye out). There, we'll inform you about what to expect these next few months and answer any questions or concerns you may have. It's also a good opportunity to introduce yourself to your partners if you haven't already!

You will also be voting for team captains. If you're interested in becoming a team captain, prepare a few bulletpoints on your qualifications and why you should take on the responsibility.

COMMUNICATION

If you haven't already, please fill out our contact info form, so you can be included in our club email list for important updates and reminders.

Also, make sure to join our Discord server! Here, we also send updates and reminders, but more importantly, it's a great way to communicate with and get to know your fellow club members :)
