Hi everybody! Science Olympiad had the first meeting of the year on Aug. 30. For newbies, welcome to Science Olympiad, and for those who have done this before, welcome back! If you missed the meeting on Friday, here's a quick recap and some resources!

Your Club Officials:

Co-Presidents: Vianna Loam and Isabella Lo

Vice President: Katherine Novozhenya

Treasurer: Raina Chatterjee

Secretary: Yoonah Lee

How SciOly works:

Science Olympiad has multiple different types of events that cover multiple niche topics of science from Anatomy & Physiology to Tower. These events are categorized as study events, lab events, and build events.

Study: The most common type of event. You study different topics under the event, and use a cheat sheet/binder during the event.

Lab: A hands on event. You will be expected to be able to test different chemicals and etc. in a lab environment and then answer questions based on your finding.

Build: You will build a structure that ranges from towers to helicopters, and test them during the event. The durability, mass, and performance of these objects are tested and considered in your score.

You will compete in groups of 2-3 people in about 3-4 events. More will be discussed about each event later on Sept. 6.

Competition will be on March 15, 2025.

Top team tryouts will be held during a date between 9/10-13.

About Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a national, team-based competition in which students compete in a variety of STEM-related events. The range of topics covered and skills required is vast – from building hovercrafts to applying forensics tools – but all are united by a common theme of scientific inquiry, and top competitors are recognized with medals.

At Scripps Ranch, the Science Olympiad club works to foster a collaborative environment for students to find success on competition day. For more information about the Science Olympiad program, please see soinc.org.
