Hi, everyone!
Today (9/9), we had our first meeting of the year. Yay!! For those of you who couldn't attend, here's a recap:
HOW SCIOLY WORKS
Everyone will compete in 3-4 events at our regional competition! What types of events are there?
Study events — These events are knowledge-based. Depending on the specific event, you can create a cheat sheet or binder to aid you during testing.
Lab events — These events are more hands-on. During the competition, you conduct an experiment.
Build events — You and your partner(s) construct a device before competition day to be tested.
This year, regionals will be hosted in early February, in-person @ USD! You will have roughly 4 months to prepare. Though you will mostly self-study your events, keep an eye out for any resources we post!
HOMEWORK!
We have a few tasks that we want you all to complete before our next meeting.
First off, fill out our contact info form! We use your responses to form our email list, where we'll send out important club announcements and news.
Join our Discord server! Here, you can check out club announcements, and it's also a fun way to interact with your fellow club members.
Start figuring out which events you're interested in! Extensive event information can be found in the Science Olympiad Division C Rules Manual.
If you haven't already, find someone to partner with! Feel free to use the #find-a-partner channel in our Discord server. Having a partner is not required, but SciOly is more fun when you're working with a friend :)
Ask your friends to join SciOly! We welcome anyone who is interested in joining.
UPCOMING MEETINGS
We will host a make-up meeting on Monday (9/12) during lunch in Mrs. Fowler's room (553). This meeting is for anyone who was unable to come today, and it will cover the same material.
Our next meeting for the whole club is on Friday (9/16), also during lunch, in room 553. We'll be hosting tryouts for our top team, so come prepared if you're interested! For those of you who are not trying out, we'll be covering event descriptions and releasing our event registration form. We hope to see you there!
